Ebook About This inspirational New York Times bestseller chronicles the lifelong friendship between a busy sales executive and a disadvantaged young boy, and how both of their lives were changed by what began as one small gesture of kindness.Stopping was never part of the plan... She was a successful ad sales rep in Manhattan. He was a homeless, eleven-year-old panhandler on the street. He asked for spare change; she kept walking. But then something stopped her in her tracks, and she went back. And she continued to go back, again and again. They met up nearly every week for years and built an unexpected, life-changing friendship that has today spanned almost three decades. Whatever made me notice him on that street corner so many years ago is clearly something that cannot be extinguished, no matter how relentless the forces aligned against it. Some may call it spirit. Some may call it heart. It drew me to him, as if we were bound by some invisible, unbreakable thread. And whatever it is, it binds us still.Book An Invisible Thread: The True Story of an 11-Year-Old Panhandler, a Busy Sales Executive, and an Unlikely Meeting with Destiny Review :
I feel like the book wasn't written in a way to really illustrate the dynamics of the friendship she had with Maurice but more about what SHE did FOR Maurice. It was almost written in a way that was self serving.I wanted more.... more substance.I feel like everything was just glazed over and made to look pretty for the most part. When she met her now husband.... man, she just dropped Maurice and justified her actions for the rest of the book.... noooo, you abandoned him just like everyone else in his life had. You did exactly what he was afraid you would do and what his teacher warned you about... you ABANDONED HIM....He was your shiny new toy, or your new pet.... or he filled the void you were missing.....until something better came along.... and then when that disappeared... ohhhhh Maurice is back and now everything is a okay again.Kudos to Maurice for making something of himself in spite of being tossed around his whole life. Shame on the author for being a self serving _______ ( just what Maurice's grandmother called her in the beginning)Perhaps Laura should have gotten with Maurice for them to both write this book.....maybe it wouldn't have been painted with such a broad stroke of LOOK AT ME, LOOK HOW GREAT I AM HELPING A POOR BLACK BOY I must disclose that I don't usually like Best Sellers, and my pattern is holding true. There are parts to like about this book - I think the descriptions of the welfare hotel and the lives led in such places is actually important reading. For that alone, this book does an important job. I felt at times we were wallowing in people's "goodness" - and their reward is a best selling novel and the money and fame that goes with it. However, I don't really think that was the writers intent. I would probably suggest (like another reviewer did) that if you want to read the book - borrow it from the library. It is a quick and easy read. Take the money you would have spent on it, and do something nice for someone - like buy an elderly neighbor a cup of coffee and have a chat, or give the money to a local food bank.
